"AMERICAN HISTORY"
Washington, D.C. (PoliticalJones.com) - Think about. Just over 40 years ago in the South, the simple act that I witnessed last week would have been blocked out and banned on both TV and the Movies. The sight of such a simple act would have caused enormous anger and outrage.
When I watched this act, I laughed. And then I thought about how much our country has changed. We live in a country of both racism and sexism, and such simple acts have meaning. In all parts of our society, people still hold deep beliefs about what they feel is right and what is wrong. When it comes to race and gender, both of these issues become very passionate and personal.
In a country that was created on the idea of equality for all, yet practiced discrimination against both Black Folk and Women, the idea of what's right and what's wrong has evolved over time.
RACE has always fueled the most emotion and anger. The oppressive legacy of Slavery still lingers. In America, we are still evolving and fighting those battles.
By the way, that act that I witnessed . . . A Black Man and a White Woman embracing. Senator Obama and Senator Clinton hugging in public after their Democratic Presidential Debate last week. Just think about how that simple act would have been looked upon just 40 years ago.
They both know that regardless of who wins the Democratic Nomination, they are both part of the history . . . AMERICAN HISTORY.
To quote the great American Patriot and Leader Medgar Evers, "In the racial picture things will never be as they once were. History has reached a turning point, here and over the world."
