"BROTHERS"
Washington, DC (PoliticalJones.com) - It seems that the Bulls-Eye has gotten bigger for Brothers in America, and the issues that we now face are harsher than anytime since Slavery. Institutional racism, in addition to the subtle and blatant issues that we encounter while Black in America, remain with us until death. There is no shield or safety from it. Don't think that a degree or a “good job” provides a barrier from this hard-core reality.
With the focus in Election 2008 on the importance of the vote of Black Women (SAAW), many have forgotten the most heartbreaking problem within the community. The problems and issues facing Brothers, both in and out of the community. With the large number of Black men incarcerated or caught in the political justice system due to the "get tough on crime" legislation, there has been a devasting effect on the Black community, now and in the future.
It is an understatement to say that Black Males or Black Manhood is under attack. Let’s be real, some of the problems faced by Brothers in our country can only be solved by us.
Election 2008 has become an important “JUMPING THE BROOM” moment in America. With the candidacy of Sen. Obama, we will get a chance to see how much our country has grown up. The question for our country . . . “Is it now realistic for a little Black Boys to grow up believing they can be the President of the United States?” Many folks want to run from this question or downplay it. In America, there is no running from race.
Let’s be real. For most politicians, the thought of dealing with the unique problems Brothers face scares them. It has always been easier for politicians to attack or hold up the Black Man as the problem. Now is the time to address the real problem. Let’s hope that during this Election 2008 cycle we will began to see a shift from those games of the past. Also our political leaders must begin to address the problems. We need their help.
For many in America, the problems of Black Men are unsolvable. They believe the plight of the Black man is a hopeless cause, and he is an endangered species. Although we have problems of epic proportion, the next phase of our experience in America will be important and historic. Black men will never stop fighting to make things right for their families and communities.
How can you ever count out a group of folk who have been enslaved, beaten, tortured, lynched, jailed, and castrated?
YOU CAN'T!
